The first Jeep model was used as a conversion of the farm tractor. It was used to serve the U.S. Armed Forces. It was the first that the Armed Forces called the “Jeep.”

The Jeep was used in the Popeye comic strip by E.C. Segar. Jeep was dog-like character that barked “Jeep” in a high-pitched voice.

The first design of the Jeep was called the Willy, named after the auto company Willys started designing them. It was marketed for civilians during 1941-1945, and was considered the iconic World War II Jeep.

The former Chrysler Corporation acquired the Jeep brand, even though Bantam BRC Willys MN created the prototype.

World War II really took the innovative and utilitarian vehicle called the Jeep to a whole new level, even though it was already serving in World War I. Jeeps were transported by planes or gliders, dropped by parachute or floated across rivers to get to the where it needed to go.

They were used by the famous, historical figures, not just soldiers. Queen Elizabeth used a Jeep when visiting Northern Ireland during wartime and President Franklin D. Roosevelt used one to see the troops in Morocco.

During World War II, the British strapped a Jeep on the deck of a submarine to transport it underwater to a Mediterranean island to support a commando raid.

In the following years after WWII, war Jeeps that were weary from combat, were sold to the public at prices between $400 and $600.
